Paging Leni Riefenstahl

From a story on Talking Points Memo, I noticed that this, apparently, is the IRS logo.

Seriously? I mean, am I the only one who finds it a bit fascist? With the trillion dollars it apparently takes to keep the organization up and running, you think they could hire a brand consultant for things like this.

  1. Oh, you cannot be serious.

What specifically about the design is fascist? You have three symbols -- the eagle, the olive branch, and the scales.

If the eagle is a fascist symbol, well, then pretty much every logo of every federal agency is in trouble. The scales are an ancient symbol of justice (they're in the official Treasury seal as well). The olive branch (if that's what that is) is about as peaceful a symbol as you can get. (This seems as good a time as any to note that the eagle has only one wing -- a left wing, hint hint, nudge nudge).

It's black-and-white. So what. It's got heavy lines. So what.

I don't see any fasces (that's where the name comes from), no swastikas, no nothing.

If you're going to make the argument that the design is fascist, make the argument already. Point out where it's fascist. Give specific examples.

Of course, if I were in charge of the IRS logo, I'd have a picture of Hillary Clinton in a pantssuit, pointing at the viewer like Uncle Sam, with the caption, "We're going to take money away from you for the public good." Because that would be honest.

  2. Dude, chill the f*ck out. It's a joke.

So sad that Republicans have zero sense of humor, unless it's about bombing Iran or the lack of WMD....

  3. I think your sense of humor got stuck in Iraq with John Kerry. (And my Hillary Clinton bit is funnier, you gotta admit.)
