Who Is Your Biggest Bust?
Hey, perv...not THAT kind of bust, I'm talking fantasy SPORTS here. Specifically baseball.
You see, I was just looking at my main team, the one I share with my bro, and it's almost comical how many of our players are on the DL.
Here is just the current list of folks spending more time in the doctor's office than on the playing field:
David Ortiz
Travis Hafner
Eric Byrnes
Chris Young
Josh Willingham
To add injury to...well, injury...this week we were forced to start Jerry Hairston, Jr., who promptly broke his thumb in the first game of the week. (Though he did swipe two bases before doing so. Thanks, J-Hair!)
Of course, injury is not the only way a player can disappoint his owners. This week, Indians catcher Victor Martinez simply added that to what is a massively disappointing year. Dude has yet to hit a single home run, and now he's on the DL. Alfonso Soriano just hit the DL for the second time, now with a broken bone in his hand. (But he has 15 homeruns and overall a real nice season thus far. He doesn't count.) Andruw Jones probably helped his owners by going on the DL since they didn't have to justify playing that piece of stink.
Miguel Cabrera is another guy who comes to mind, though again he's at least healthy and finally starting to rake. But there are loads of other candidates, which just goes to show one how unpredictable fantasy sports is. Of course, that's half of what makes it fun - it wouldn't be quite as much fun if titles were awarded on the day after the draft, right?
So...who is your biggest fantasy disappointment this season?

The three pitchers that have hurt me:
ReplyDelete* Dontrelle Willis - stole him in the 25th round of our draft, thought he'd be a sleeper, but he never woke up.
* Jason Isringhausen - like Andruw, it's good that he's on the DL, because otherwise I'd be forced to hurt him.
* J.J. Putz - name says it all this year. And he may be hurt, too.
Depending on when you drafted those closers, it's hard to fault you - they SHOULD have been good for a lot of saves, though I will say I wanted no part of Izzy this year. But Dontrelle...at least in the 25th round it's all a tossup. I'm not really surprised he doesn't have much fantasy value; I am surprised his arm is still connected to his body given that delivery.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt Hafner is the worst let down of the year. We are talking about a guy who was mvp worthy a few years ago. I just traded him for liriano who is in the minors. The make the point even more, I am happy with my deal.
