Added Benefit

There are a lot of good reasons to go to the gym, of course. But one that doesn't automatically factor into my calculus is that each elliptical trainer, treadmill, etc., has its own TV. This helps me, even though I listen to music, as I can watch the Giants, or whatever sports program is being aired.

Others watch what they choose. And though I can't hear the audio for any of those sets, it's also pretty obvious what's going on.

And the lesson - which of course, I didn't need to 'learn' - is that America may have no bigger idiot than Sean Hannity. Rush Limbaugh may have more listeners, Ann Coulter may say far more egregious things, and Glenn Beck's IQ is probably actually lower than Hannity's, but there's no bigger doofus, no larger hypocrite with as wide an audience as Sean Hannity.

I will add this - I can't really watch MSBNBC either, for as much as I love Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann, there's no pretense that it's unfiltered 'news' -- and that bias gets a bit burdensome. But at least they're pretty open about it. (And for those who criticize MSNBC, I will say that they give a Republican (Joe Scarborough) three HOURS in the morning. No liberal gets their own show on Fox, let alone the entire morning.) From what I can tell, Hannity still pretends - or heaven forbid, actually believes - that he's telling the truth, the unbiased, unfiltered facts. And nothing could be more wrong.

Except Sean Hannity, and the people who watch and listen to him.

  1. It's a bit problematic in your argument to equate disagreeing with opinions to those you disagree with as having a low IQ. No personal offense, as you are obviously my boy ... but, I really hate it when people do this.

I'd love to see people like Coulter, Hannity, etc. take an IQ test, because they are very smart, from a book smart sense. You disagree with their ideology, and that's fine.

That does not, however, make them Mike Davis (the basketball coach) or Paris Hilton.

There's a difference, and I know deep down you agree.

  2. You raise a good point, Show.

IQ is a pretty odd measurement - witness the fact that the only time I was measured, I had an IQ off the charts and compare that with my day to day activity and you can see that it's no judge of smarts.

So sure, I'd guess that all of the above (except maybe Glenn Beck) are smart enough to do well on an IQ test.

I called Hannity an idiot not as much for his lack of smarts, but just in the way you call someone who spouts nonsense an idiot. Like, for instance, Joe Morgan on many ballgames. Hannity consistently calls out Obama or Hillary Clinton or other folks for things that he won't even talk about when they exist (often in worse cases) on the right. You can argue that Olbermann and Maddow do this equally, but you'd be wrong. (They are still woefully partisan, hence my comment in the post that I don't watch them much either.)

So sure, he's not DUMB, but he is an idiot. Does that make sense? Hope so, cause I'm sticking with it.
